The Big Change – Bespoke Ecommerce is always better

We are living in an era where almost everything has become digital. ‘Online’ has become the way to sell and buy any item or service to and from just about every location on the planet. More specifically, our mobile devices are the doorway to these transactions. Currently, the initial investment to build internet e-commerce is so low that it has created very wide access to anyone who wants to start a business.

As little as a few years go one needed a physical place to establish a business, now it is just a website, if that, some have success with only Facebook, Amazon and eBay stores alone. One can present the service or product to thousands of people with ease. A professional rather than amateur look and feel is required for sustained business,  this type of commerce has been facilitated thanks to platforms such as Shopify and Wix, that host a variety of tools to create an online store, but since these tools are made by private companies, they are specifically geared to hook-in potential customers and lead them to excessive spending over time, their costs could be more expensive than they actually appear. How does it work?

E-commerce varies according to the business relationship between the customer and the seller, there can be as many types of interactions and these change and grow as different business relationships are formed. The most common and what is an initial base or goal to consider when starting out, which according to Rania Nemat professor at the Al-Azhar University in Cairo, are:

B2B (Business to Business): This relationship consists of the exchange of products or services from one business to another.

B2C (Business to Customer): This reflects the best-known and closest relationship, since it is from business to client, which makes it one of the main exchange between two identities.

C2C (Customer to Customer): Finally, there is a relationship that is gaining more and more strength, this has been facilitated thanks to platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.

Who needs it?

It is clear that this type of commerce is designed so that anyone can access it, since according to the marketing of any company, the target audience must increase as well as profits.

In today’s society mixes, if you want to be your own boss, you only need:
1.  An internet connection,
2. Have an idea and
3. Know how to sell it.
On the other hand, if you already have a business, to be able to take your physical store to online commerce, it is almost as simple as creating a Facebook account. But is that enough? And what if your account is hacked or removed from Facebook?

What comes next?

This year 2020, due to the quarantine(covid-19), the world had to continue operating online, which means that for the first time since this ‘online selling’ world was created, it was continuously used on a massive scale. Thus, many businesses created their space on the web as e-commerce official store, this is how platforms such as Wix or Shopify increased their subscriptions dramatically. It is likely that in the future all transactions will be done online, making physical and real spaces obsolete, simply because companies would save more on costs and that the majority of consumers are lazy.

A new way of consuming

Technology has improved our way of life, a few decades ago it was unthinkable that a person in Argentina could order from a company in China from the comfort of their home. E-commerce not only provides a space to take a company to the international market, it also opens up new possibilities for marketing and reaching people in remote places that would have otherwise never been possible. Some platforms create personalized ads for your business to stand out temporarily amongst competitors, some work in relation to how much you invest in the platform. Our society is being struck down by a network of personalized advertisements, thanks to the fact that these read our minds, or to be more exact, listen to us while we talk about what we want to have in our lives.

Can’t beat them? Join Them?

Technology isn’t going anywhere and will continue to exponentially increase in speed on innovation as long at the human race exists. So one can either hide on a beach somewhere and live in a hut with no electricity… However appealing that may sound, try to live without your smartphone for a week. Most would not be able to.

Or there is a way to be part of all this advancement and at the same time have the ability to step away form the platforms and systems that would hold your business ransom, a way to have your own domain of online existence and instead of being slave to the system, use the system to suite your needs but always have a choice to step away and still retain your following and loyal customers you have worked so hard to get.
